Strawberries on the vine

The pick-your-own season has started, and we’re lucky enough to have some amazing farm options right here in Lennox & Addington! While the season is short, it’s one you don’t want to miss.

This season begins with strawberries, Haskaps and Saskatoon berries, so I visited our two pick-your-own farms to give you an idea of what to can expect to see when you arrive. My hope is that it will entice you closer to enjoying a basket of your very own delicious berries!

When it comes to berry picking, I would consider myself somewhat of an expert. My first ever job was on a strawberry farm. With multiple summers of experience, I have sampled more than my fair share. The berries grown right here in Lennox & Addington are some of the BEST ones I’ve ever eaten!

Let’s get berry picking!

Baskets filled with strawberries from Wynn Farms

Wynn Farms has got you covered this strawberry season! For their second year open after a 17-year-hiatus, they’re offering Pick-Your-Own Strawberries! If you’re in the market for farm-fresh strawberries, this is the place to go!

These berries are all-Canadian with the plants originating from Quebec and planted in Wynn Farms’ Ontario soil for you to pick. These strawberries are the definition of “A Canadian Thing”.

When you get to the farm, grab a 4L basket and head over to one of the plentiful fields. You’ll have your basket filled in no time with the amount of juicy and plump berries!

Once your basket is full, make your way over to the farmstand for some flavoured smashed lemonade (blue raspberry, peach, watermelon, or strawberry) and some Kawartha Dairy Ice cream! I got strawberry ice cream (of course), which was just what I needed after picking strawberries out in the warm sun. There’s no better way to end a successful berry-picking day than with some cold treats!

They also offer pre-picked strawberry baskets in limited quantities.

Passionate about what they do, Sarah and Jim Wynn along with their wonderful team, have made this experience one to remember! Be sure to check out their social media channels to stay up-to-date on all things strawberries.

Mark your calendars… Wynn Farms Flower Fields will be opening in July!

This time of year is my favourite because when one pick-your-own fruit grows, the next one is close behind. Berries By The Bay is open and ready for pick-your own, ready-picked, and frozen Haskap and Saskatoon berries!

I had never heard of Saskatoon or Haskap berries before I visited this farm two years ago, but I’m definitely happy I did!

Hands covered in Berries

Grab a basket and head out to the orchard filled with plump, ripe berries. Each row is labelled with the type of berry, making the process simple and enjoyable!

Saskatoon Berries

Along with pick-your-own berries, they offer both pre-picked and frozen berries for purchase at the farm stand.

Haskap berries

If you’ve never tried a Haskap or Saskatoon berry before, this is your sign to give them a try! Stop in at Berries By the Bay to pick a basket of these unique, delicious berries!

I hope you get out to these amazing locations this pick-your-own season! Strawberry season lasts about 3 weeks, ending early July so be sure to check out Wynn Farms’ website before your visit. Also look for updates on Berries By the Bay‘s website as Saskatoon and Haskap berries last until mid-July. Happy picking!
