So far, this summer has been heatwave after heatwave, and personally, I’m not someone who enjoys this kind of weather. As much as I find comfort sitting in an air-conditioned room on days with brutal heat, I can’t help but feel like I’m wasting the beautiful summer days we have here in L&A. Soon enough it’ll be back to snow on the ground, and wishing for this weather to come back.  

The one thing that I have found to combat the heat and make the most of the summer is swimming at the beach. I used to avoid swimming in open water (thanks to watching Jaws at a young age…), but after moving to Lennox & Addington, I quickly discovered that the local beaches are peaceful, welcoming, and perfect for relaxing. And, best of all, void of any man-eating sharks.

Each beach has its own unique charm, offering space to relax on the sand, splash around in the water, and go for a peaceful paddle.

A Historical Beach Day at UEL Heritage Centre & Park 

54 Adolphustown Park Road, Adolphustown 

Located along the scenic Loyalist Parkway, UEL Heritage Centre & Park combines history with outdoor recreation. This day-use area features a sandy swimming beach, making it a great place to cool off on a hot day. For a small admission fee, visitors can also explore the museum and learn about the area’s Loyalist history.

Escape to Sand Beach Wetlands Conservation Area 

Beach Road, Stella 

On your next exploration of Amherst Island, take some time to cool down at Sand Beach Wetlands Conservation Area. Have some fun splashing around in the water and lounging on the sandy beach. Explore the trail and take in all of the beautiful nature around you. Be sure to stay on the path to help preserve this conservation area. 

A Classic Summer Day at Centennial Park 

638 Park Road, Yarker 

Centennial Park on Varty Lake was the first beach I went to when my family and I moved to Lennox & Addington and has continued to be my go-to spot. With a sandy beach, lots of picnic tables to enjoy a meal at, and a long dock to walk on, this is a great place to spend a sunny day. 

The Perfect Afternoon at Beaver Lake Lions Park 

5771 County Road 41, Erinsville 

Beaver Lake Lions Park is the perfect place to spend a hot, summer afternoon. Go for a swim and relax at the park. Grab some food from the Lakeview Tavern & Restaurant next door, and some ice cream across the street from Beaver Lake Convenience & More while you’re there! 

Relax at Neville’s Point 

Neville Point Road, Erinsville 

Another beach on Beaver Lake that you should check out is Neville’s Point. Enjoy the waterfront park and beautiful swimming area with a dock. There are also picnic tables and a gazebo for you to enjoy a meal at. Spend an afternoon splashing around in the water at Nevilles Point. 

A Scenic Swim at Bon Echo Provincial Park 

16151 Highway 41, Cloyne 

Spend a day at Bon Echo Provincial Park and take advantage of their well-kept beaches. There’s lots of space for families to swim around and to set up on the beach. While this swimming area doesn’t allow pets, there is a designated pet swimming area over the bridge just west of the main beach!
