By Cole Youmans, Naturally L&A — Located at 11 Concession Street in Tamworth’s downtown is The Quartermaster’s Store & Quirky Café.  After spending decades as a bakery, owner Linda J. Howes transitioned the business into its new role in December.

‘Quirky’ Offerings

The store offers a wide variety of items, some produced in-house and others curated from local artisans and producers. Some of these products include soaps, baked goods, coffee, soda, maple syrup, and much more.

Some of the local brands featured in the store include County Roasters, Salmon River Sugar Bush, and The County Bounty. Always on the lookout for new additions, Linda is actively seeking out local honey and preserves to add to her ever-growing collection.

Linda is also a certified soap maker and the owner of Shining Waters Soap Company. She has been producing soap for over 10 years, and regularly hosts workshops as a way of sharing the knowledge she’s accumulated. In addition to soap-making workshops, the Café also has plans to start hosting Tea Time Tuesdays to raise funds for local charities.

Community First

The Quartermaster’s Store & Quirky Café places the community first. When asked about the most rewarding aspect of running the business, Linda answered “Having a happy customer, and making it so that visitors leave the store feeling better about themselves”.

This attitude can be felt as soon as you step foot inside the Café, as Linda will greet you with a smile. You can grab your things to go, or you can take advantage of Linda’s hospitality and sit down to read, write, chat, or enjoy a hot beverage and a bite to eat.

The Café also places a large emphasis on promoting the Tamworth community by connecting with residents and preserving the uniqueness of the area. Part of the contribution is publishing a newsletter that focuses on everything that is going on in Tamworth. These newsletters provide updates on the Café, as well as on other businesses and events happening in the surrounding area.

When you’re in Tamworth be sure to stop by and see Linda. You can stay connected with the Quartermasters Store and Quirky Café through her Facebook and Instagram pages for updates on upcoming events, workshops, and new products.
