By Cole Youmans, Naturally L&A — The Hive is a brand new artist collective located on 363 Main Street in Bath. They currently offer the use of the studio space to Hive members, and art the gallery is open to the public from Monday to Saturday. They also provide an extensive selection of art workshops suitable for individuals at any skill level, encompassing various disciplines such as painting, drawing, photography, and woodworking.

How Did They Get Started?

Following the closing of Lakeside Studio Gallery earlier this year, Amanda Lloyd and her fellow artists saw the need to fill the artistic gap that would be left in the community. To address this gap, they joined forces and established the Hive. The response from the community has been remarkable, and the artist collective has continued to grow since.

Favourite Aspect of the Business

Amanda says  what she loves most about the business is the creative community they have formed, and are continuing to form at the Hive. Like its namesake, the Hive strives to be a busy and buzzing creative hub that meets the needs of the vibrant surrounding community. She says that being an artist can be a lonely experience at times, and that giving artists a hub where they can bounce their ideas off of each other is incredibly important and rewarding.

What Makes the Hive Unique?

Where the Hive differs from other art studios is primarily in their open door policy. As mentioned previously they of course allow visitors to view the art gallery, but they go one step further in opening the studio to the public. This lets visitors come and view finished pieces & works in progress at the same time, as well as granting them the opportunity to see and chat with artists while they’re working!

The Hive has plenty of upcoming events and workshops which you can view on their website, the most anticipated of which being their Grand Opening on Saturday, April 6th!  They’ll be hosting daytime events for the family, and a Gallery Night from 6-8pm, where visitors can meet with the artists and potentially even take a special piece home with them! Also be sure to stay connected through their Facebook and Instagram channels for updates on ongoing projects and future events.
