There are so many fun places to explore here in Lennox & Addington. I recently spent a day visiting some of the wonderful communities located in Stone Mills Township. The charming rural hamlets that dot the landscape are filled with unique shops, bakeries, agri-tourism destinations and peaceful nature experiences.

I’ve shared an itinerary below that I think you may enjoy. As you take the tour, feel free to add other locations around the area that pique your interest. We are fortunate to have so many spots to visit, so don’t limit yourself to only this list!

Hawk Vale Antiques and Old Stuff

1408 County Road 1 East, Strathcona

As you enter the small hamlet of Strathcona, there is the beautiful Hawk Vale Antiques and Old Stuff. If you are into antiquing, this is the place to visit. Each of the quaint buildings is filled with unique, vintage items that are waiting for you! They also sell gorgeous flowers daily. Take some time to wander around the beautiful buildings and find something you love.

Abrams Bakery

422 Main Street, Newburgh

After some antiquing, grab a treat at Abrams Bakery! They have lots of options… cookies, pies, squares, and so much more. I found it difficult to choose which treat to pick because they all looked so appetizing. I went with a blueberry tart and was super satisfied with my choice! If you want something a bit more filling, opt for a delicious sandwich or pizza. Begin your day right at Abrams!

Barking Goat Farms

13 McGill Road, Centreville

The next stop on my tour is at Barking Goat Farms! Explore the farm and get to know all of the sweet animals. There are goats, donkeys, chickens and many more as well. Each animal has their own personality, but they all have one thing in common, they like farm visitors. You’ll have the time of your life at Barking Goat Farms, so don’t skip over this stop!

The Book Shop

2-10 County Road 4, Tamworth

In the lovely hamlet of Tamworth, there sits the Book Shop. This is a great place to stop in to find your new favourite book. With over 20,000 books spanning across dozens of genres, you’ll be sure to find something that fits your interests. Take some time sifting through all of the hand-picked, used books that are just waiting for you!

Black Cat Café

5 Ottawa Street, Tamworth

While hanging out with goats and browsing books is a great way to relax, the Black Cat Café is the best place to rejuvenate with something to eat. Get some energy back with a tasty sandwich and coffee. There are lots of great food and drink options for everyone to enjoy. Sit outside on the covered patio and bask in the beautiful town of Tamworth with some great food.

S’Cooper’s Spot

1 Concession Street North, Tamworth

Another great place to eat in Tamworth is at S’Cooper’s Spot. They have many pizza options that everyone will enjoy. Grab a whole pizza or just a couple of slices. Don’t forget to follow it up with a much-needed ice cream cone for dessert! S’Cooper’s Spot is a great place to refuel after a fun-filled day of adventures.

There are some other great dining experiences to choose from nearby. Be sure to check out A-One Corner Restaurant, The Quartermasters Store & Quirky Café and The Lakeview Tavern.

The Bee Spot

695A Addington Street, Tamworth

The next stop is the unique touring experience at The Bee Spot. Nadine, your knowledgeable tour guide, will show you different hives and teach you all about the hive systems. I never knew how intricate and interesting honey bees could be until I experienced this tour myself. You’re suited up and prepped for your tour, so this is good for people who are nervous around bees. This is just one of the many unique experiences offered here in L&A County.

Sheffield Conservation Area

8032 County Road 41, Erinsville

Stone Mills has some amazing hiking trails, one being the Sheffield Conservation Area. This is a 4.5km looped trail with varying terrain. This is a great place to immerse yourself in nature and appreciate the natural beauty our Lennox & Addington has to offer. In addition to hiking, you can fish, paddle and go birding here. Ontario’s only lizard, the five-lined skink, lives here too. If you enjoy kayaking, head over to their boat launch and spend some time on the small but beautiful Mellon Lake.

Dark Sky Viewing Area

7980 County Road 41, Erinsville

To end your exciting day in Stone Mills, head to the Dark Sky Viewing Area to see the night sky like never before. This is the most southerly point in Ontario that gives a night sky experience similar to what was seen over 100 years ago. Grab a blanket and look up at the endless stars. Depending on when you visit, there may be events like the laser-guided star tour, so sign up for them on their website!

The Tamworth Hotel

5 Ottawa Street, Tamworth

Wanting to extend your stay? The Tamworth Hotel is the perfect place to spend the night! Each room is decorated in its own vintage fashion, giving everyone a unique experience. The hotel is not far from the Dark Sky Viewing Area, so it’s the best place to rest after your wonderful viewing experience.

I hope this itinerary helps to show you around our wonderful Stone Mills. Feel free to add in other stops along the way as there is endless fun to be had here. Safe travels!
