The Hive & Heartstone

Small-Batch Apiary and Breadery | Greater Napanee

The Hive & Heartstone is a local apiary in Greater Napanee, specializing in raw, unpasteurized honey and wood-fired artisan bread. Visitors can explore the retail “Sugar Shop” to find chocolate and cinnamon-infused creamed honey, freshly baked loaves, and seasonal produce, all crafted with a focus on natural well-being and local craftsmanship.

The Hive & Heartstone is run by a Newfoundland family who landed in Lennox and Addington and built a small apiary and wood-fired breadery from the ground up. The bees, affectionately known as the Sugar Fairies, and every jar of honey sold comes from their hives on the property, raw and unpasteurized to keep the natural antibacterial and antioxidant properties intact. On Saturdays, the wood-fired oven is going, and the bread comes out in small batches. Between the honey and the loaves, the Sugar Shop smells the way a farm kitchen should. It is a quiet stop, family-run and unhurried, and one of the more distinctive farm experiences in the county.

Here’s What’s Different

  • Every jar of honey comes from their own resident “Sugar Fairies” on-site.
  • The shop pairs unpasteurized honey with traditional wood-fired bread, both made on the property.
  • Artisan loaves are baked in an authentic wood-fired oven and sold first-come, first-served.

Good to Know

  • Raw honey never spoils and retains natural probiotic benefits. The bread sells in small batches and goes quickly, so arriving early on Saturdays is worth the effort.
  • Pair your visit with other stops on the Artisans & Hidden Gems itinerary to discover more one-of-a-kind local finds.
  • A worker bee’s entire lifetime of labour produces roughly one teaspoon of honey.
  • The average lifespan of a worker bee during summer is six weeks.
