Love Fishing, boating and paddling in L&A?
We are blessed with an abundance of lakes and amazing fishing here in Lennox and Addington County. However, like any other natural resource, it needs to be protected. Please do your part to help us preserve our pristine lakes and thriving fisheries.
Don’t Introduce Invasive Aquatic Species – Clean Drain Dry – It’s The Law
In Ontario it’s illegal to transport invasive species overland. Before transporting a boat or boat equipment overland, boaters are required to remove drain plugs to drain water from the boat and take every precaution to remove all aquatic plants, animals or algae from any boat, boat equipment, vehicle or trailer. It’s also illegal to place a boat or boating equipment, vehicle or trailer into a body of water if there are any aquatic plants, animals or algae attached to it.
Always follow the Clean, Drain & Dry boat and trailer procedures to prevent the introduction and spread of invasive species.
Don’t Spread Invasive Aquatic Species
Many of our lakes have invasive species control programs in place so watch for signage and stay out of sensitive areas marked by buoys. Driving your boat through aquatic plants, tearing weeds with fishlines etc., has been shown to spread the problem. If you dislodge a weed with your prop or fishline, pull it into your boat and dispose of it at a safe distance on land.
Always follow Fishing Regulations
Make sure you have a valid fishing license and always follow the regulations related to open seasons, catch limits and slot size restrictions. Always consult the most recent rules and regulations for recreational fishing in your zone on the ontario.ca website. The regulations help us continue to sustain a thriving fish population in our lakes for current and future generations.
Conservation officers and the Ontario Provincial Police regularly patrol our lakes and have the power to enforce these regulations with equipment confiscation, fines, or even convictions.
