Construction is now underway on a variety of projects designed to improve the visitor experience at the Lennox & Addington Dark Sky Viewing Area, located at 7980 County Road 41 in Erinsville. As a result, the Dark Sky Viewing Area will be closed to visitors effective Monday, September 26, 2022. The site will remain closed until further notice.

Improvements to the site  include:

  1. An expanded concrete platform to allow more space for telescope and camera setup,
  2. Barrier fencing along the southern edge of the viewing area to reduce vehicle light obstruction on the platform,
  3. Solar power installation for visitors requiring power to operate telescope and camera equipment.

The site will reopen as soon as possible. Construction updates will be posted on the Dark Sky Viewing Area’s website as well as on their Facebook and Instagram channels. We apologize for any inconvenience.

This is the first major construction project undertaken at the Dark Sky Viewing Area since opening in August 2013. Over the past 10 years, the site has grown to become one of the top tourist destinations in Lennox & Addington. Known as Ontario’s most southerly dark sky site, thousands of visitors from urban areas to view a night sky almost completely unobstructed by light pollution.
